Drink Plenty of Fluids

There are certain fluids that can be better than others when it comes to getting rid of kidney stones, but in general, the first thing you should try to do is drink plenty. The more fluids you’re drinking when you’re dealing with kidney stones, the better.

You can also remember to stay hydrated in the future because this is one of the easiest and most effective ways to avoid more kidney stones from developing.

Fruit Juices

In addition to the general rule of having plenty of fluids, some specific fluids can work particularly well for breaking up kidney stones. Namely, lemon juice and cranberry juice are excellent options. They have citric acids that good for dissolving the crystalized buildup that makes up kidney stones.

There are different tonics that include combinations of kidney stone-fighting ingredients such as lemon juice if you don’t want to drink it alone.

Again, these types of liquids can be helpful not just when you have current kidney stones you want to treat, but they can be great for preventing future stones from forming.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has been touted as somewhat of a cure-all, but in the case of kidney stones, it really can be a good option. You should use an apple cider tonic several times a day if you want to speed up the elimination of kidney stones.

While making sure you have a diet rich in certain vitamins and minerals isn’t going to do much for current kidney stones, it can go a long way to preventing them in the future.

Diets rich in magnesium as an example can help prevent kidney stones. Vitamin B6 and Vitamin E are also important because these vitamins reduce calcium-oxalate levels.

People also tend to supplement with cranberry extract or use cranberry drinks or tonics if they’re prone to getting kidney stones because cranberry can reduce the amount of calcium in your urine.

In terms of your diet, avoid certain foods that can increase the risk of kidney stones forming such as foods that have a lot of oxalic acid like spinach and sweet potatoes, and processed red meats.

Finally, if you have kidney stones currently, make sure you avoid anything that could dehydrate you, such as alcohol or caffeine. When you’re dehydrated and not getting enough fluids, it’s going to make your kidney stones worse, and you’re going to feel more pain as a result.
