The festive season is a time for giving… and for eating far more than you had ever planned to! It’s not anybody’s fault, really, it just happens that way. Here are a few of Old Nick’s tips for helping you keep you from ruining the progress of your diet program to lose weight while still enjoying the holiday feast.
Enjoy it, but in moderation
“Everything in moderation” is a well-known saying. And it also same applies to food. Far too many people are denying themselves the enjoyment they should be getting from their food because of guilt and fear. You might feel that you’re doing your body a favour, but you’re really just causing a host of other damages. So enjoy the feast! Just not too much, though.
Bring your own food
This does not mean you should bring your own food to eat alone and not partake in the feast. The idea is that you should make something healthy, which is also sensitive to your unique tastes and weight loss programs, and add it to the feast. The benefit of this is that there will be something you can indulge in and you’ll know that it won’t compromise your own diet eating plan. So head for that dish and enjoy it with everybody else.
Stable eating times (no snacking in between)
Aside from the big family dinners there is also the ever-present temptation of seasonal treats. Candy canes, gingerbread biscuits, fruit cake, you name it! These tasty treats add to many people’s holiday diet eating plan woes, because they are there throughout the day. So set a schedule to keep yourself on track, eating only at meal times – yes, you are allowed to have a snack with/after your meals – and at most two snacks in between at, let’s say, 10am and 3pm. This will give your body a chance to digest all the delicacies without breaking your diet program to lose weight, as well as keeping you out of temptations way.
Exercise is one reliable way to keep your weight loss programs in check over the festive season. A healthy diet eating plan is very good for you, but it is not a temporary fix for your weight. It’s a lifestyle plan which should be maintained. To properly help your metabolism and supplement your eating plans by constantly working off the extra energy gained from the treats you rightly reward yourself with, just exercise a little. Walk for at least thirty minutes a day, or join a gym if you are feeling particularly enthusiastic. It doesn’t have to overwhelm you, it’s just a little boost.
